I take issues I am struggling with, or new learnings that have deeply impacted me, and share them in my books

It always really touches me when I realize that what I do has an impact on people. We’ve all been through tough situations. Not many of us escape childhood unscathed. Few of us survive working life or relationships without scars. I work from that experience. If what I say, write, or do inspires people or gives them strength, courage, or hope, I’m over the moon.

Like many of my books, I write to inspire myself. I take issues I am struggling with, or new learnings that have deeply impacted me, and share them in my books.

Anxiety Rescue is one of these books. I’m tempted to say that it’s a concise guide to overcoming anxiety and making the most of your life. It is. And it isn’t.

As I wrote this book, so many factors which impact anxiety came to light. Many of them are ignored by general practitioners and doctors—the very people many of us go when we’re feeling stressed, anxious, or just plain unwell. Some, are viewed skeptically by psychologists and psychiatrists.

Yet times are changing, the old ways aren’t working. Prescription medication and pharmaceutical drugs are being consumed in exploding quantities, and still, anxiety rates and other mental illnesses are still soaring.

Increasingly science is validating what ancient wisdom has been telling us for years. You only have to consider how main-stream meditation, yoga, acupressure, and other holistic therapies have become, to witness the emergence.

Anxiety Rescue is based on clinically-proven techniques and integrates modern science with other healing modalities. Yet it also harnesses the magic of creative approaches to healing. Which is why I’ve turned to two of my greatest inspirations—Leonardo da Vinci and Coco Chanel. Anxiety Rescue summarizes their timeless wisdom and strategies to tame anxiety, quell despair, overcome obstacles and maximize health, wellbeing and success.

we can heal ourselves

From my own professional and personal experience, I know we can heal ourselves. A great deal many people don’t need pills to feel calm, happy, healthy, and inspired. Some do.

I am not against prescription drugs, but what concerns me, as it may you, is that many anxious, stressed, and depressed people are not offered a choice. Nor do they benefit from someone taking an inventory of their life and analyzing the traumatic events or stressors that may be impacting their anxiety levels.

Like Len, who, aged 42-year-old man who had suffered work-related burnout, and sought relief from his doctor. He was, quite rightly, alarmed that his doctor told him that the only cure was medication. He left his doctor’s office empty-handed.

Ten years later, a diagnosis of complex trauma, not only made sense but also provided a roadmap to lasting healing. I’ll be sharing more of his story in a book I plan to write called, Leaving Jehovah—Surviving the Cult of Toxic Control and Shame.

Or, Sarah, who’d been taking anti-depressants for years but had noticed her anxiety rates returning and no longer wanted to be on medication. Counseling and engaging in talk-therapy gave a voice to wounds she had repressed. When darkness was brought to light, and armed with new tools of self-care, including meditation and nutrition, her anxiety rates disappeared.

I’m not bagging medication. Not by any means. My purpose in writing Anxiety Rescue is to share alternative routes to healing—lasting ones that enable you to be empowered and chose the best course of action for you.

No two people are the same. We have not had the same childhoods, the same school experiences, or workplace trauma. I speak from my own experience—both what has worked for me, and what has worked for my clients.

With over twenty-five years of expertise working in therapeutic professions, most lately as a child therapist and relationship counselor, I know what works.

As you’ll read in the chapter, “My Story,” I’ve swum through a tsunami of trauma, hurts, and humiliations and drawn on a range of modalities to help me not just survive, but also thrive.

My hope is in reading this book, you will emerge stronger, happier, healthier, and more thankful too.

A large part of my healing has involved following my joy—something you’ll learn to discover for yourself in this book.

I use my passion journal to visualize, gain clarity, and create my preferred future—including my health goals. My clients find this works for them too—along with the other strategies I share in Anxiety Rescue.

In this era of anxiety and distraction, the need for simple, life-affirming, health-enhancing messages is even more important. If you are looking for inspiration and practical tips, in short, sweet sound bites, this guide is for you.

Similarly, if you are a grazer, or someone more methodical, this guide will also work for you. Pick a page at random, or work through the four pillars of health sequentially.

I encourage you to experiment, be open-minded and try new things. I promise you will achieve outstanding results.

Let experience be your guide, as it has been mine. Give your brain a well-needed break. Let go of ‘why’, and embrace how you feel, or how you want to feel. Honor the messages from your intuition and follow your path with heart.

Laura, who at one stage seemed rudderless career-wise, did just that. Workplace stress was a major source of her anxiety. Finding her passion and following her joy sparked a determination to start her own business. She felt the fear and went for it anyway, emboldened by a desire to live and work like those she looked up to. It was that simple.

As with all of my books, many of the examples I share were inspired by true events in my own life. At the time of writing, I recalled one of the first times I trusted the spiritual realm. I was a teenager when my paternal grandmother was channeled by a psychic and my disbelieving and skeptical self was asked, “Your grandmother says you don’t believe she is here. But she is holding out a flower, and she is asking, ‘Do you remember the jasmine flowers growing over the house?’

I didn’t.

But when I drove home I called into to Araby Lodge, where my grandmother used to live, and where until her death, she bred and trained her beloved horses. At the time my father lived in her house. I asked him, “What is that vine growing over the house?”

I didn’t want to tell him anything about what the psychic had said because I was still skeptical and I didn’t want to influence the answer. My father said, “Oh, that old jasmine vine? That’s been there forever.”

My heart nearly leaped out of my chest. It was at that point that I began to believe in spiritual and psychic phenomena, and in time, many years later, to awaken my own gifts. These gifts weren’t awakened without considerable anxiety—something I talk more about in the chapter, “Shadow Work.”

It’s a timely reminder of just how far following my passion and being free to be me has taken me—the shy girl who was once afraid of being seen and was terrified of her ability to channel.

As I share in many of my books I hope the following quote is as apt for you as it was for me:

“Your staying in the shadows doesn’t serve the world.”

Here’s to learning from our anxiety and transforming our lives with passion, joy, and purpose!

Broken into small, bite-sized segments—you’ll soon find yourself jotting notes down, finding someone else so you can share the insights and experience, and resources made available to keep you happy, healthy, motivated and focused. Dig into this book and let Leonardo da Vinci and Coco Chanel and other successful men and woman be your mentors, inspiration, and guides as they call forth your passions, purpose, and potential.

Say YES to happiness NOW! It’s never too late to end anxiety and follow your joy to live a life you love.

Your Body Barometer

The deeper the feeling, the greater the pain.

~ Leonardo da Vinci

The more you truly care about something, the deeper the consequences can be when you don’t act on your desires.

When you aren’t true to yourself and you don’t do the things you aspire to do your mental, emotional and spiritual health can suffer.

Common signs of neglecting the call for success and forsaking your ambitions can include: tiredness, depression, anxiety, irritability, and strained personal relationships. In short, you’re lovesick—starved of the things that spark joy.

The body never lies, but many people soldier on ignoring the obvious warning signs. It’s easy to rationalize these feelings away, But the reality is your mind, body, and soul is screaming out for more. Have the courage to say ‘yes’ to pursuing a more liberating alternative.

Your Challenge

When you feel unfulfilled, bored, unchallenged and demotivated what do you notice? How does this differ from times when you feel the fear but love life passionately anyway?

I’ve been absolutely terrified every moment of my life—and I’ve never let it keep me from doing a single thing I wanted to do.

~ Georgia O’Keeffe, artist

THE POWER OF PASSION

If there’s no love, what then?

~ Leonardo da Vinci

Without love you don’t have energy. Without energy you have nothing.

When people are pursuing something they are passionate about their drive and determination is infinite. They become like pieces of elastic able to stretch to anything and accommodate any setback. People immobilized by fear and passivity snap like a twig. They lack resilience.

Passion gives people a reason for living and the confidence and drive to pursue their dreams. Leonardo was a man of many loves and deep obsessions. These passions imbued him with infinite energy—powering his creativity, courage, resolve, and tenacity.

As Leonardo once said, “No labor is sufficient to tire me.”

Even when he was exhausted by life, his passion sustained him.

Your Challenge

What will passion do for you?

The really important stuff is not in my résumé. It’s what has gone on almost unnoticed in the secret chambers of the heart.

~ Isabel Allende, author

DRESS JOYFULLY

The grand problem, the most important problem, is to rejuvenate women. To make women look young. Then their outlook changes. They feel more joyous.

~ Coco Chanel

Coco was a trailblazer in women’s fashion. When she arrived in trousers in Venice people were shocked, but shock quickly turned to awe. Women wanted what she had—and Coco was only too happy to sell it to them.

Her joyous color was black. She loved its simplicity and understated elegance. Perhaps it reminded her of the habits the nuns, who so tenderly cared for her, wore.

Whatever the catalyst was, Coco had the vision to turn black, the color of mourning, into the symbol of independence, freedom, and strength. She also created the now iconic little black dress!

Your joyous color may be yellow, blue, or gold. Or it may be multi-patterned and have all the colors of the rainbow. Floating dresses in the finest silk may instill you with confidence, or perhaps you prefer something more tailored.

Whatever your color, whatever you wear be sure that it makes you feel joyful.

Your Challenge

Act as if. Take a job or lifestyle idea you are considering, or have always wondered what it would be like, and act as if you are living that role. Dress the part.

Have your colors professionally confirmed by a trained image consultant—when you dress in the colors that suit your skin tone you’ll look younger and feel fabulous.

Dress shabbily and they remember the dress; dress impeccably and they remember the woman.

~ Coco Chanel

“Love your work”

Prior to writing this post, I had sent out news of my new book to my email subscribers. Immediately I received an email from one of my readers.

“When I read the first few sentences I could immediately relate – it’s exactly how I feel at this very moment (sadly).

I feel so tired and overwhelmed just trying to get through each day, let alone any curveballs that may come my way.
It’s so debilitating and I feel like this is ‘my lot’ and no happy ending.
I will be sure to download your ebook. I have your Passion Workbook sitting next to me in the car – yet to read… Too tired (always tired).
Keep being awesome! Love your work 🙂
Her email made me happy – and sad. Happy the words spoke to her. Happy that even though she felt so low, my email sparked some energy—the energy of love. I could sense some enthusiasm…even in the darkness. I also felt sad—sad that she feels this way. I know EXACTLY how this feels. Millions and millions of people feel this way. I know that there is a cure. I know you don’t need medication, drugs, or alcohol to rescue you. I know the difference that the power of love and healthy obsessions can make—I talk more about the power of positive obsessions in my sobriety books, Mind Your Drink: The Surprising Joy of Sobriety and Your Beautiful Mind.
As I wrote back to her, she also inspired me too also get moving with creating an audiobook. That way when she and others who also suffer from anxiety, fatigue, and despair, when they are driving can be fed some inspirational juice…
I also invited her to consider scheduling a coaching session with me—sometimes it’s just too hard to go it alone. If this sounds like something you could benefit from click the following link to schedule an appointment

How to do it scared—even if you don’t have the courage of a lioness

Most of the successful people I know made massive leaps toward more fulfilling futures despite their doubts, fears, and anxieties.

I know I did. When I started my business I had no idea whether anybody would even come to me for guidance—let alone pay me.  I was a single mum struggling to pay my mortgage. I didn’t have a safety net. When I look back on my life I’m amazed at how far I’ve come. I built several successful businesses, uprooted my life and moved to the end of New Zealand and I’ve reinvented my career as an author and intuitive coach. But guess what? Everything that I do, I still do scared.

What gave me the courage and confidence to change? An obsessive desire to follow my passion to prosperity.

Does this resonate with you? One of the simplest ways to boost your courage and confidence is to read a book that guides and empowers you to make changes. It worked for me and it will work for you. Talking with a career coach made a massive change too. Suddenly I had somebody on my side, cheerleading me along.

Right now, I’m super excited to be coaching amazingly, incredible men and women who want to live lives of significance. Women, like Lynnie Galloway who is training with me to become a Worklife Solutions Certified career and life coach. It’s so much fun helping her develop her brand and business, The Treasure Chest. And importantly, it’s rewarding to share my passion and skills with her and know she will be helping others follow their passion to prosperity too. Read more about Lynnie’s story here—http://www.cassandragaisford.com/rebirthing-a-new-career-lynnies-reinvention-story/

And then there’s the amazingly energetic and uber-inspiring young woman, Lucy O’Connor who is reinventing her career and recreating her business Monday Hustle. ““Stop overthinking and take the leap. You’re never too young for a career change!” she says. And she’s walking the talk—and she’s doing it scared! Read more here>>http://www.worklifesolutions.nz/lucys-reinvention-story-hustling-her-way-into-a-new-career/

One of my biggest tips to help you have the courage of a lion is to follow your obsessions. Check my latest blog post here>> http://www.worklifesolutions.nz/become-audaciously-obsessed-how-passionate-obsessions-empower-your-productivity-and-prosperity/

Or be inspired by other phenomenally talented men and women—and who better to spotlight as we bask in the energy of the Leo new solar eclipse than Coco Chanel—born under the sun-sign of Leo. Here’s a small excerpt from my book, The Art of Success: How Extraordinary Artists Can Help You Succeed in Business and Life (Book Two: Coco Chanel)

AWAKEN THE SEER

If you were born without wings, do nothing to prevent them from growing

~ Coco Chanel

Several years ago when I was in New York I stumbled on a book that was to change my life—Psychic Living: Tap into Your Psychic Potential, by Andrei Ridgeway.

“In this technological day and age filled with busywork,” Ridgeway writes, “many of us neglect our psychic potential. Our instincts are repressed and our inner voices buried.

“For many people, the word ‘psychic’ is so titanic, they can’t accept it. They don’t realize it’s a normal state of being, that as a lover, and a friend, we use this part of ourselves all the time.”

Some people claim Coco Chanel was intuitive to the point of being psychic. She could see into the future, spot needs for which there would later be demand, and had a brilliant knack for creating the right product at the right time.

Some ways to awaken your psychic potential include:

  • Meditation
  • Yoga
  • Aromatherapy
  • Mindfulness
  • Prayer
  • Heart-based spiritual practices
  • Free-writing/journaling
  • Reading oracle or tarot cards—something which Coco did regularly

Your Challenge

How could you awaken or strengthen your psychic potential?

Engage all your senses so you can feel, taste, touch, smell and hear your future.

I have always been able to see what others were unable to see; and what they did, I did not see

~ Salvador Dali, artist

To succeed, we need role-models..”The Art of Success” inspired by Coco Chanel gives you that! The Art of Success: How Extraordinary Artists Can Help You Succeed in Business and Life (Book Two: Coco Chanel) is available in print and eBook from Amazon – navigate to here getBook.at/CocoChanel

DEVELOPING A  MILLIONAIRE MINDSET

Or does your mindset need a boost? I know my mine does. I’ve been working like a trojan this year. As I write to you now, I’m excited to share that n just a few hours I’ll be boarding a plane and flying to Bali, Indonesia with my mum. For two glorious weeks, we’ll be doing girl bonding. I can’t wait to tell you all about my travels to this magical, mystical island.

If you can’t get away, rejuvenate your mind, body, and soul with my new book, The Prosperous Author: How to Make a Living With Your Writing, Book One: Developing A Millionaire Mindset

“While my book may be complete and receiving more traction than I could possibly have hoped for, I now find myself worrying about my ability to do the promotion and ‘selling’ of it that I’m led to believe is expected of me. Self-Doubt.  This is more scary to me than having the book read and I will use your inspiration to teach myself the confidence I am going to have to find and deliver on in the coming months. Your book is brilliant work,” wrote author Heather, whose soon-to-be-released book The Tattooist of Auschwitz wrote, after reading my book, The Prosperous Author: How to Make a Living With Your Writing, Book One: Developing A Millionaire Mindset.

Heather also shared the below, including how her daughter-in-law, who is not a writer, benefitted from reading, Developing A Millionaire Mindset:

I started reading this when you first sent it to me, got sidetracked quite early on, too much going on over here both with family and publishers.

I went back to it on Wednesday in the right frame of mind and couldn’t put it down.  Not only could I not stop reading but when I had finished it I went back to page 1 and read a second time.   I just knew I’d only fully absorbed 50% of your wonderful advice and wanted it all.   My son and daughter-in-law, plus 2 little ones were around today and at one point my daughter-in-law was lamenting the pressures on her both at work and as a mother.  She is a very senior economist for the state government working outrageous hours and with immense pressure on her as she manages the State health budget, the biggest in the government.  I gave her my ipad and told her to flick through your manuscript and read what she thought might help her.  She disappeared into another room for an hour and came back thanking me and saying she felt empowered to make changes, not for financial reasons, but to get her life back on track and determining what is really important for her and her family not her employer.

Part of my pressure has been getting my manuscript, again, into a publishing mode.   Dymocks, the largest bookstore franchise in Aust are having their annual conference in Sydney in 2 weeks time and they asked if they could showcase my book.  This put the pressure on to get an ARC ready and to the printers.  This happened only on Friday.   Attached the ARC cover FYI.

While my book may be complete and receiving more traction than I could possibly have hoped for, I now find myself worrying about my ability to do the promotion and ‘selling’ of it that I’m lead to believe is expected of me.   Self-Doubt.  This is more scary to me than having the book read and I will use your inspiration to teach myself the confidence I am going to have to find and deliver on in the coming months.

Brilliant work girl.

Are you ready to quit a job you hate? How to stop overthinking and take the leap

Are you ready to quit? Read this inspiring post by a woman I am training to be a Worklife Solutions Coach—Lucy O’Connor from Monday Hustle.

The day I did what people tell you not to

Monday Hustle’s Diary

Today, I resigned.

It’s fine. I’ll be fine. We’ll survive this. Me AND my bank account. I’ll have to suffer through a few ‘better not’ moments at the dairy counter, dissuade my friends out of a coffee catch up in favour of a ‘lovely walk’ (I hate walking),  and take the T out of TopShop for a while. But it ain’t all about the money honey. It’s about the flippin’ Dream. And I’ve always been a firm advocate for The Dream (spelt with capital letters cause that’s how important it is). I buy into all those clichés (not literally, cause I can’t afford any more) – life’s too short, the world is your oyster, you can be anything you want to be. Because sister, what else is the point??!! I’m 25 now and I gotta give the dream some room to move. I’ve spooned The Dream while it slept for too long. It’s time to gently shake it awake, welcome it into the real world, and let it get on with what it needs to do to not only survive but thrive (first Bridesmaids reference).

Right now, I have a great job in sales, which any beginner would kill for – I am working for a great company, around great people, doing something that society says ‘I should be grateful for’ because someone would kill to have my job. But therein lies the problem. Someone else would love to have my job. Overall, I’m not happy with my situation. I have been working in the role for a year which isn’t that long in the scheme of life, but you know what? That’s a year of not being 100% happy, a year of waiting for something else to happen, a year of my where I have been distracted from putting my dreams into action.

So many people get ‘stuck’ on a path because they keep getting opportunities, they are good at something, they don’t back themselves to do something else. But I’m determined to give The Dream a chance. We each have a certain uniqueness to offer and no two of us are exactly alike. So we have an opportunity – to be the best possible version of ourselves and try to crack whatever it is we actually want to do with our lives. We can’t be the best possible version of someone else’s Dream. But we are the masters of our own. For most of us, we aren’t going to get that golden ticket lying down and waiting for it.

So today, I decided to practice what I preach. I’m going out into the real world with my passion, my drive and the small amount of money I have in my bank account. I’m starting the chase right bloody now. If I commit myself to being the best possible version of me, and direct my energy towards The Dream, that surely is the recipe for a fulfilling life with very few regrets. It’s not going to always be easy, and it won’t always be fun, but it will always be alive – and hopefully, eventually, something’s gotta give. Will you join me in the hustle to be your best self? Cause girl, you gotta hustle. Even on the most uninspiring day of the week. #MondayHustle

Lucy’s reinvention story: Hustling her way into a new career

“Stop overthinking and take the leap.”

You’re never too young for a career change! I’m excited to share Lucy O’Connor’s personal story of reinvention. She’s preparing to morph her business Monday Hustle into something even more beautiful by becoming a life coach. As you’ll read we first connected many years ago when Lucy was a teenager. I was thrilled to hear from her again and awed by all that she had achieved.

I was also excited to learn she wanting me to help her become a Worklife Solutions Certified Life Coach, but that’s not the real story. The real story is her vision for her coaching business, Monday Hustle and her deep desire to help others increase their resilience, mental wellness and give birth to their entrepreneurial dreams.

Check out Monday here Hustle www.mondayhustle.com. Pretty impressive, right? I will let Lucy tell her story, but one of the things I was surprised to hear was that Lucy doubted she might have anything to offer! But in saying that, I also know self-doubt is common prior to embarking on transformational change. That’s where partnering with a mentor helps.

Plus, every great story is drawn from intentions and obstacles. To be the hero’s and heroines of our own stories is what makes life rewarding.

Many of the questions I asked Lucy are drawn from screenwriting legend Christopher Vogler and his guide to story structure (inspired by the work of Joseph Campbell’s The Hero’s (and heroine’s) Journey. I’ve put some of the stages in brackets.

Why did you decide to train to be a life coach? Describe your everyday existence work wise (The ordinary world)

My everyday work existence was typically one completely starved of inspiration and fulfillment! But it wasn’t for lack of trying. After studying psychology at Uni, I received an internship at an advertising agency, which I took because society told me I would be stupid not to. At 21, I had literally no interest in the advertising world, but taking on that role shaped the employment positions I would receive for the next 5 years.

I worked in PR, sales, media, promotions, radio, yet not one of those roles felt any closer to whatever it was I was destined for.

At 26, I’d had enough. After receiving a promotion in my then advertising sales role, I realized not only that I didn’t want to step up the ladder but I had to make a clean break for the last time!

I had nothing to go to and had little else but my savings, my contacts and lots of fresh optimism – but something told me it was now or never – so, I trusted my gut, and took the leap.

I decided to start a blog as a way to keep accountable for my new chosen path, and named it ‘Monday Hustle’. I used the word ‘Monday’ to try and give people a fresh excitement about that day, and ‘Hustle’ to give the feeling of momentum, growth, and resilience.

Little did I know that Monday Hustle would manifest into my calling!

I wrote a blog post each Monday which covered what I had done, learned and experienced that week, and after a year and a half of authentically sharing my story, I realized that maybe I had some extra value to provide my ever-growing audience.

I went back and assessed what aspects of myself had grown the most, and found that the main difference between 2015 Lucy and 2017 Lucy was her ability to feel resilient in the face of change, transition and when looking after her mental wellbeing. I thought it would be an incredible thing if I could help others to develop their own skill set in these areas, and thought the best way to do this was to train to be a coach! And here I am at another transitional phase of my life – which I am super excited about.

What factors influenced your decision to train with Worklife Solutions/Cassandra? (call to adventure)

I had already worked with Cassandra when I was 17, and she was fab. She helped me settle on a degree which set me in great stead for life because it was one that kept my interest and has always been relevant no matter what I do (psychology).

It felt only natural to go back and train with Worklife Solutions because I had been through the process and benefited greatly!

You initially considered training several years ago? Why did you delay? (Refusal of the call)

I refused to answer the call because of my age and my lack of confidence in myself and the wisdom I had to offer. However, after writing Monday Hustle and assessing the response, I think there is a great need for young influencers, coaches, and thought leaders to work with other young people who may be challenged with similar things. It is through empathy and understanding that we truly connect – and the more we can do that, the better the world will be.

Who or what encouraged you to train? (Meeting the mentor)

As I was going through a semi-life-crisis (see below), I started chatting with a few mentor-type people I had met through my Monday Hustle journey. At that point, I was nearly ready to throw in the towel, give it all up and move to a remote village in Bali I was so starved of inspiration; however, luckily a few people pulled me back to earth! They said, Lucy, you have this captive audience who want you to succeed, why on earth would you give all of that up?? You have skills to offer, wisdom to share and life experience that could really assist young people who are going through similar journeys – so what can you do to help?

I thought that over for a while, and then something happened that would really cement my decision – which naturally leads to the answer to the question below!

What was the pivotal moment, turning point or catalyst to saying ‘yes” now and committing to action i.e. enrolling, paying your fees and locking in a start date (crossing the threshold)

As I was going through that life crisis last December and feeling resentful towards everything I had created, I snapped my Achilles tendon. This, of course, forced me to step back and assess where I was at in life. I think that snapping my Achilles was the universe’s way of saying ok, don’t just slow down, STOP, review and gain some clarity.

My mother suggested I look at online courses as a way to keep interested and pass the time while I healed, and suddenly it all came together!! I had worked with Cassandra when I was 17, and she popped back into my head when I was thinking about what I might like to study. As they say, the stars aligned, and I just had to act on that gut feeling!

What challenges did you face? (Tests, allies and enemies)

I experienced the challenge of whether or not I had the cash, the resources, doubt as to whether or not it was really the right thing to do. I thought about all the people I knew in the life coaching space and wondered whether there was room for me. I questioned whether it all made sense, both for me and for my audience. And then I stopped overthinking and took the leap.

The final destination lies ahead—what steps are you taking to prepare for successful completion? (Approaching the innermost cave)

Time management is key for me right now!! I am effectively in the process of setting up two businesses at once because of my decision to steer Monday Hustle in the direction of life coaching, so it really is going to be a case of staying disciplined, focussed and keeping the motivation levels high!

What fears, if any, do you feel you must overcome? (The crisis/supreme ordeal)

I think I have to get over the fear that I will have nothing to offer, and that my skill set isn’t valuable. Believe it or not, before Monday Hustle I was intensely private and kept everything as close to my chest as possible (to the point where I wouldn’t even tell my mum about auditions I had unless I got the role!) My idea of success was to just make it, and have no one see the journey you took to get there. It’s bizarre to me that now literally every single win and every single fail is recorded for anyone to see – so I guess when it comes to valuing myself, I still have a bit of scar tissue from that past life!

Crossing the threshold—describe what you and your life will look like when you return with your treasure:) (Seizing the reward, The Road Back.)

My life will be one which has more direction, excitement, fulfillment and momentum. With a honed focus comes clarity, and I have no doubt that once I get on this path, opportunities will present themselves more and more frequently. If I can help one person to feel more confident in the fact that they are capable of overcoming their battles, then I will feel very stoked indeed.

What last tests do you feel you may face? How will you know you are reborn into a new and beautiful form ( The Climax/resurrection)

The last tests I will face are resistance and doubt, which will stem from me internally, and try to throw me off course!!

I will know I’m a beautiful form when getting up in the morning is so exciting that I never hit snooze, where I am when I am meeting people from all walks of life and we are working together to create some serious magic.

Finally, the treasure is yours. Begin with the end in mind – what does this look like, feel like, what can you hear etc – engage all of the senses to make your vision/treasure real. (Return with the elixir)

This treasure smells like freshly cut grass. It sounds like a bird harmonizing with Lauren Hill. It feels like the kind of joy that a child experiences when they are running under the sprinkler in summer.

What a wonderful future Lucy is manifesting! Feeling the beauty of who you are and what you do, harmonising with Lauren Hill and feeling the joy of a child running under a sprinkler is definitely a sign of alignment with spirit energy, passion and purpose.

Guess who’s celebrating?

We celebrated International Women’s Day in New Zealand yesterday, ahead of my friends and readers in the States and UK. Aptly we were got to cheerlead amazing women around the world first—I’m proud to say that new Zealand was also the first country to give women the vote back in 1893. The United States finally began allowing women to vote in 1920, after the ratification of the 19th Amendment to the Constitution. While the King Abdullah of Saudi Arabia dragged his sandals—granting women the right to vote in 2011 (their right to freedom and liberty is still contestable—as it is for other women around the world.

I spent the day reflecting on how lucky I was to have been born in New Zealand and in a Western culture which, for the most part, values women and supports equality. However, there’s no denying that there’s still work to be done. Woefully New Zealand has one of the highest incidences of domestic violence against women and their children. 30 per cent of women internationally are estimated to experience physical or sexual partner violence. That’s a third of the female population. That is reflected in New Zealand.

Which begs the question, “Why are (some) men so angry?”

But that’s another story.

For now I’m writing to celebrate International Women’s Day—and to sound a call to us all (men and women) to uplift, embolden and encourage other women to succeed. Sometimes we need a mentor—someone trailblazing like Coco Chanel. Coco and the other strong, determined women whose wisdom I share in my The Art of Success books. Women like mega-talented, Iraqi-born British architect, Dame Zaha Mohammad Hadid, and pioneering mathematician and astrologer Hypatia of Alexandria. They and other women, past and present continue to inspire and mentor me.

The hurdles they, and other successful women like Oprah Winfrey, had to overcome seems cataclysmic in comparison to my own—and hopefully to yours. The torture they were subjected to—emotionally, mentally, spiritually and very often physically—in pursuit of their desire to live and speak freely.  But despite the struggles, they continued on. When we hear their stories the thing that lingers for many is an admiring curiosity about the qualities they possessed, and an awe-like wondering if we might acquire these traits too. Patience, perseverance, passion and persistence are just a few. And all the women I admire were driven by love—not hatred.

As I share in the foreword to The Art of Success:

“Whenever I’m in a slump or needing an inspirational boost I turn to people who are smarter or more skilled than me for good advice. I’ve done the same with qualities I’ve wanted to develop, like patience. “What would Mother Theresa do now?” I asked many years ago. Mother Theresa wouldn’t shout! She wouldn’t lose her cool. She’d send loving kindness and smile. And that’s what I did  whenever I got frustrated.”

I applied the strategies I learnt from studying the success secrets of courageous women (and men) to my own life—personally and professionally. If you’ve been procrastinating, experiencing self-doubt, feeling fearful, or just getting in your own way, you’re in good company. Coco Chanel’s been there—as have every other person I admire. I’ve been there too.

If you yearn for a better life, and are feeling discouraged, I promise there are solutions to the problems you’re currently facing—and you’ll find some of them in the wisdom of your mentors, including those of Coco embedded in the pages of The Art of Success: How Extraordinary Artists Can Help You Succeed in Business and Life (Book Two: Coco Chanel)

Dig into this book and let Coco Chanel be your mentor, inspiration and guide as she calls forth your passions, purpose and potential. Be inspired by Coco for the special reduced International Women’s day price of $3.99 —in less than two hours you could be on your way to radically reinventing your life.

Through the teachings of Coco, extensive research into the mysteries of motivation, success and fulfillment, and my own personal experience and professional success with clients as a holistic psychologist, The Art of Success will help you accelerate success. Together, Coco and I will guide you to where you need to go next, and give you practical steps to achieve success.

Coco Chanel believed from a very early age that the door to her freedom and self respect lay in securing and maintaining her independence. However, many people mistakenly sacrifice their relationships in pursuit of successful careers. Unhelpful beliefs, including, “You can’t have it all” or, “You can’t have a relationship and be successful,” may partly be to blame. It’s the messages you tell yourself that matter most, says celebrity hypnotherapist and author, Marisa Peers. “Belief without talent will get you further than talent with no belief. If you have the two you will be unstoppable.”

How to reinvent your career and your life: Pivot—change careers and live again

Creating Your Past and Your Future: Celebrate Your Audacity

What amazing feedback one of my client’s Lisa Conroy received! Incredible! So proud of her – living and working as she does with passion and purpose! Her success story is just one of many that have enriched my life this year – I’m thankful that having trained her to become a life coach that I have been able to play a small part in her success. Lisa proves that when you follow your bliss, life really can be a wonderful Box of Chocolates. Check out the feedback below.

As we near year end, it’s a great time to celebrate your wins, lick a few wounds, and resolve to create an extra-ordinary future.

The chances are high that you’re a lot like me—I didn’t inherit a fortune, I’ve had more than my share of challenges, and like waves in a storm, there’s always more hurdles to surf. But successful people, like Coco Chanel and Leonardo da Vinci, and the guy on the street corner praying he can make his mortgage, we keep swimming against the tide of mediocrity.

So take a moment, recollect, note and recall all the things you’ve achieved, all the dreams you’ve dared to dream, all the trials you’ve weathered—and most of all celebrate just how fabulous you are.

Like the lady who wrote to me (below) and reminded herself she already was successful—she has a wonderful husband, beautiful children….and a kind and generous heart.

Fortune favors the kind…and the audacious!

I just received the most amazing feedback re The Art of Success – brought tears of joy to my blue eyes

“Hi Cassandra, I just had to tell you how much your Coco Chanel book means to me. I can’t even express all the emotions I am feeling right now. First of all, I never realized how much I have in common with her. Abandoned by my father, daughter of a narcissistic mother (which is like not having a mother at all). I’m also a Leo. Second, I relate to so many of her characteristics, as well. I’m fiercely independent and strong-willed, but riddled with doubts. Reading this book was like looking into a mirror for me; one that reflects both my past and my future. Your book is an answer to the prayer I’ve had in my heart recently. I will be referencing it often. I have so much to work on concerning myself, and I see this book as a much-needed tool to help me move past the limiting beliefs I can’t seem to let go of. The quote about living a life with a husband and children and people you love? That helped me to realize that I am already a success in Coco Chanel’s eyes. SO EMPOWERING!!!!! Thank you so much for the gift of this book.”

How to dream big and make it happen today

images-2

“I invented my life by taking for granted that everything I did not like would have an opposite, which I would like “~ Coco Chanel, businesswoman

In the movie, ‘The Pursuit Of Happiness,’ Will Smith, who plays the role of a homeless man, says to his son, “You got a dream, you gotta protect it. People can’t do something themselves, they wanna tell you that you can’t do it. You want something? Go get it. Period.”

As a child Coco dreamed big. The flames of her desires were in part fueled by reading romance novels full of dashing heroes and heroines living absurdly, audaciously opulent and liberated lives.

I’m sure plenty of people tried to sabotage Coco’s dreams of success—but she dreamed big dreams anyway. She once said that she would pretend she didn’t hear people who criticized her, and could not see people with whom she disagreed. Her boundless imagination, strength of purpose and courageous spirit are an inspiration to young and old.

People, impatient to see the realization of your dreams may say, “Show me the money” or “You’ve left it too late,” or some other downer message.

Ignore them.

“It’s already been done,” people said to Tim Ferris when he first mentioned his idea of starting a podcast. Instead of letting others talk him out of starting his show he did it anyway. His podcast is now ranked #1 business podcast on all of iTunes, and it’s been ranked #1 (of all podcasts) on many occasions. It is the first business/interview podcast to pass 100,000,000 downloads. It was also selected as iTunes’ “Best of 2014” and “Best of 2015.” He’s been called the Oprah of radio.

Your Challenge

Dream big. Everything starts as someone’s daydream

Fuel your verve—pursue the vision that sparkles

Become audaciously obsessed

Dream big but plan small. Baby steps will lead to bigger success

Anchor your dreams within your heart and feel as though they are already achieved

Create a soundtrack to feed your dreams. I still love Miley Cyrus’s The Climb, particularly the encouraging lyrics to persist and persevere, “Ain’t about how fast I get there, Ain’t about what’s waiting on the other side—It’s the climb.”

“Remember, you go where your vision is. Think Big, feel big, and know in your heart that you are one with God, and you will project a radiance, a glow, a confidence, a joy, and a healing vibration which bless all who come within your orbit now and forevermore”

~ Joseph Murphy, PhD, author and New Thought minister

The Art of Success: Coco Chanel

images

A sneak peek – just for you! The Art of Success: Coco Chanel.

I’m feeling super inspired as I head down the finishing straight for this second book in the Art of Success series. I’ve just finished writing one of my chapters and thought you might like a sneak peek. A keen, amateur interest in astrology is something Coco and I share.

The Art of Success: How Extraordinary Artists Can Help You Succeed in Business and Life (Book Two: Coco Chanel) will be released Dec 14 and available for pre-order here getBook.at/CocoChanel

FAITH IN YOUR STARS

Arrogance is in everything I do. It is in my gestures, the harshness of my voice, in the glow of my gaze, in my sinewy, tormented face” ~ Coco Chanel

Much of Coco Chanel’s success can be attributed to her faith in the stars. Chanel believed in astrology. She was a Leo, symbolised by the lion, queen of the beasts, Leo is the sign of royalty. Proud and arrogant, yet loyal and brave, this sign if ablaze with warmth and fire.

Creative entrepreneurship is the true stamp of a Leo—and Chanel manifested this in buckets. Driven by passion, purpose, determination, a desire to lead not follow, the courage and fearlessness of a lion, and a serious need to be noticed. Making an impression is Priority One for many Leo’s—think Mick Jagger, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Julia Child and other flamboyant people who share Coco Chanel’s sun.

Chanel’s moon was in Pisces, making her intuitive to the point of being psychic, writes Karen Karbo in The Gospel According to Coco Chanel. This may explain her uncanny knack for predicting where best to place her energy to amass a great following and fortune.

Leo is also the fifth sign of the zodiac—a number Coco used to astounding success when she named her perfume, Chanel No. 5. She also leveraged off her faith in her stars and other spiritual tools to empower her mind, and sustain her during periods of darkness.

“Most clients come with financial problems or relationship problems,” my friend and astrologer Marianne O’Hagan says. “They come looking for the hope of happiness in the future.”
Marianne knows personally and professionally. You can read more of her story in Mid-Life Career Rescue: What Makes You Happy—including how she started her own business by using her faith in the stars.

I’m a Libra in Western astrology and a Snake in Chinese astrology. It’s true when they say that Libran’s love harmony, balance and beauty. I love it when I receive feedback from readers, saying my book is “beautifully written.” Or, as a person who read my first Art of Success book, inspired by Leonardo da Vinci, posted in their review, “This beautiful book wraps art around business and life and makes each hum with energy and creativity and brings the reader new vitality.”

Google ‘best careers’ for Snakes and I’m told to avoid careers where I have to work too hard. ‘Working hard’ to me is doing something I dislike, working with people I don’t respect. Working hard is not marching to my own beat.

But when I’m working in the passion zone, fulfilling my purpose, now that’s a different story.

Whether you’re a believer in the notion that whatever planets align at your time and place of birth can determine your intrinsic strengths, shape your character, relationships and fortunes, there’s plenty of helpful data to aid you in your quest for success. Keep an open mind and don’t take everything as total gospel.

Your Challenge

Go cosmic—gain additional insight about your astrological sign from any of the plethora of books, online resources and personal astrologers. Focus on identifying your strengths, Achilles heel, and best-fit-factors career-wise and in your personal life.

I liked the idea that astrology believes we all are special and have unique gifts. It was at that moment that my love of astrology was born

Be the hero of your own life story

img_6740I feel honoured to have interviewed MICHAEL HAUGE on the Cassandra Gaisford show. Michael is a top Hollywood story expert, author and lecturer who consults with writers, filmmakers, marketers, attorneys and public speakers throughout the world.

He is also the best-selling author of Writing Screenplays That Sell and Selling Your Story in 60 Seconds: The Guaranteed Way to Get Your Screenplay or Novel Read. Both of which I highly recommend.

Michael lives in Los Angeles with his wife and has worked in the film and television industries for more than 35 years. He loves movies! And he loves figuring out what makes them work. And he loves helping people tell their best stories too – people like actors Will Smith and Morgan Freeman, or Devon Franklin, Vice President of Production, Columbia Pictures (to name-drop just a few)

We’ve become great friends after I purchased Michael’s books and had the great fortune to attend his seminars when he was in Auckland recently speaking at The Romance Writers of New Zealand conference in August.

You can learn more about Michael here: www.StoryMastery.com

If you visit his site you’ll find lots of information on story, plus information on his one-on-one coaching session. I’ve had a session with him and got so much value! And if you sign up for his newsletter, you’ll get a list of key story questions for whichever discipline interests you.

I’ll share the link to the interview when it goes live. In the meantime you can learn more about many of the critical skills you need to master to become the hero of your own story in many of my books—below are just a few which will help.
